A Toy Train Trip to Ooty Exploring the Beauty of Nature
We started our journey by boarding a train from Tirur to Coimbatore. It is a three-hour journey to Coimbatore. So, we entered the Second Class Compartment. We reached Coimbatore around 4 p.m. Since our trip to Ooty is tomorrow, we had plenty of time. So, we roamed around Coimbatore.
From there we took a bus to Mettupalayam at 5:30 p.m. Within an hour we reached Mettupalayam. Then, we took a room there. Looking out of the room we could see the Mettupalayam Railway Station. The train to Ooty is from here at 7 a.m. We had reserved the ticket just over a month ago. At night, we went out and had dinner. Then, we returned to the room and talked for a while.
At 6:30 a.m. we vacated the room and reached Mettupalayam Railway Station. The station was very rushed with passengers. A small train with three bogies was parked there. After the ticket check, we got on the train. It had a steam engine. There was a lot of smoke going out. The train departed at exactly 7:10 a.m.
The trip was very enjoyable. The train was going uphill. It was moving in a lot of curves. I met a few people traveling with us. Everyone was excited. We passed by, enjoying the beauty of nature. In some places, the train stopped for a while to see the scenery. There were about 100 bridges on that route 30 of them were very long.
The Nilgiri Mountain Railway was built in 1908 by the British. It was listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2005. This train and railway are still amazing. Sometimes the speed of the train can be very slow. At that point, we feel like walking down the train.
Another major attraction on that route is the tunnels. There are a lot of tunnels. When we enter the tunnel, the inside of the train is completely dark. We can't see anything.
Climbing uphill, our train reached Coonoor. Coonoor is one of the major stations on this route. There are about 12 stations on this route. It was nice to see the Coonoor railway station. When I got there, I felt pretty cold. It is a favorite tourist destination for visitors. From there, added one more bogie to the train.
We left there and after 11:30 a.m. we reached Ooty(Udagamandalam). The same train will return to Mettupalayam at 2 p.m. We went from Ooty Railway Station to see the Botanical Garden. After seeing the Botanical Garden, we boarded a bus to Coimbatore. From there we got a train to Tirur and reached there at 2 am.
